Yes, the article directories took a real hit after the Panda update because they were labeled as content farms, but here’s the big picture:
Article marketing was never about getting links from the directories.
This is what those claiming article marketing as a dead practice simply do not understand. The real strategy behind article marketing for SEO has always been to submit your content to directories in order to get it syndicated to other non-directory websites for better backlinks. This leaves one big question:

A lot of SEOs and marketers think that article marketing is all about spinning PLR content and blasting it out to thousands of directories with some software. While I’m not completely against mass submission, this is simply not how article marketing works – it’s just link blasting.

As already stated, the real purpose of article marketing and submitting to the directories in the first place is to get your content found by other webmasters so that it gets syndicated on non-directory websites.

I used to use UAW for myself and clients, but I have since discontinued using it. I use Article Marketing Robot on occasion, but I mostly stick to white hat, traditional methods like outlined in the guide.
Yes! I definitely agree, I also submit articles on article directory sites into order to be syndicated! Then that how I increase my backlinks. Also, submitting on ADs helps a website improve its rankings.

Nice! Article marketing has help my website improved on rankings. Just a question, does Google needs to index first the article I submit on Article Directory because it would have effect on my rankings?
If you are going to publish the article on your site then it should get indexed there first, but otherwise I think I don’t think it matters. It’s not a problem if Google sees the article directory as the original source of the content.
I agree, we still utilize article marketing. And it still shows positive result.

Hello Ben. I’m thinking: Isn’t it better to do guest posts than to submit the same spun articles on article directories? Or would you regards the two as essentially the same thing, as their purpose is the same?

Hey Brian, good question. I don’t recommend spinning the articles as they should be of a decent quality too in order to get syndicated. I like guest blogging a lot for site promotion and article marketing is simply another means. I would recommend using both simply for the diversity.

Yes, a lot of people don’t understand the purpose of Article Directories just like you stated. Don’t expect a lot of traffic from a specific article exchange. The backlinks is the goal to help you get on the 1st page of google for a keyword search. I like how you help people save time. I know I spent hours doing manual submissions in the past.

Hi Ben, Pay with Tweet is a nice way to market the article. But as we all know that Google Plus counts impacts our searches, CTR and rankings and more, then why Webmasters/Bloggers don’t use Google Plus button instead of Tweet button. Is Google against that? Will it consider it as a Black Hat trick or something similar. Please throw some light.

I wouldn’t say it is Black Hat or a trick, it’s just a marketing device to help create virality for my product. I used to sell it, now I give it away for a Tweet in return – nothing explicitly black hat or unethical. I haven’t seen a similar tool yet for G+, but that would be a good idea as well.
Article marketing is a good way of marketing through content or article. It’s very important to aware people about product and tell all features to visitors. Article marketing is one of the best marketing tool.
