List of 17 Document Directories
Posted by Ben Sibley on Apr 28, 2012 | 12 commentsI’ve talked about submitting to document directories a few times on the site, but I’ve never compiled a list of sites to submit to… until now
These sites are best for driving traffic rather than rankings because they are nofollowed for the most part.
These sites all allow PUBLIC sharing of documents which is why they can drive traffic to your site and potentially be used to build links. I have seen submitters and lists that include sites like box.net – this doesn’t make any sense because it keeps your documents private and inaccessible by search engines and web browsers.
Here’s the list I compiled which includes 17 directories, 6 of which are made for presentations.
Directory Name PageRank Issuu 9 Scribd 8 eSnips 6 Yudu 6 DocStoc 6 Calameo 5 PDF Cast 5 Zoho 5 Edocr 4 Doocu 2 doXtop 0 For Presentations: Slideshare 8 My Plick 5 Slide Finder 5 Slide Serve 5 Slide Six 5 Power Show 4
You can use these sites to easily get traffic by converting articles used previously for article marketing into PDFs, or Powerpoint presentations made for video marketing, for example.

Well I guess in the end these will help your rankings because of the added traffic they can give you. Thanks for a great straightforward list.

Hi Ben, thanks for this, I use Scribd at the moment, I would like to ask you if it is beneficial to post a blog on your blog and then convert it to pdf and submit it to any of the above sites. I would also like to know if it is wise to submit the same document to all of the above sites at the same time?

Neil,
You can use content from your blog and submit it to as many directories as you’d like. This would be considered syndication. Aggressively syndicating content from your blog is a bit grey-hat, but it probably won’t hurt to do. The only reason I don’t submit my blog posts is because I want people to be here in order to consume the content.
Now I’m thinking, maybe using the first 3 or so paragraphs and then a continue reading link could be effective for driving more traffic back here.
Thanks Ben. I usually write blogs and then convert them to PDF and submit them to the various submission sites in order to gain more exposure. I obviously include my website in the document. I feel better now knowing that this is acceptable. I hope Google do not have a rethink on this one.

But with Google Panda, isn’t that considered as duplicate content? I’ve been really puzzled with this tactic. with the new algorithms Google has been implementing I personally think we should avoid re-purposing a content? Ben, what are your insights about this? Thanks.
Hey Rick,
Nope it’s not duplicated – that refers to the same content on the same domain. This would be considered “syndication”. Submission to these directories is more for traffic than it is for links/SEO benefit.
Hi Ben,
It make me easy to search document directories and thanks for adding page rank as well. I really like these types of posts in which page rank is also included with list.
You did a great job

Thanks for the kind words Pete. I like to compile these lists to help speed up my own link building and promotion – don’t see why I wouldn’t share!
