Posted by Ben Sibley on Oct 6, 2011 | 56 commentsAs a blogger or content marketer, your job doesn’t stop when you finish your content. You can use these social bookmarking and new sites to drive targeted traffic to your content.

(Site Statistics updated October 2011)
Social News sites are awesome and better than any basic bookmarking platform in my opinion. Because of the voting systems they have in place, you stand a greater chance of getting really big exposure.
If you have a blog in virtually any niche you’ll be able to submit your blog posts to relevant niche sites and subcategories of general sites like Reddit.
I included whether or not the sites are dofollow, but please think of these sites as traffic sending tools and not places to slap up some backlinks. If you take a look at a list of sites like this from as recently as 2010, the majority of sites no longer exist – largely due to spamming for backlinks.
Some of these sites can be submitted to with automation. Two sites that are free to use to automate submission are Pixelpipe and Onlywire. I made a program with Ubot to help automate the sign-up process which you can download for free here.

Very nice list! It’s not easy finding niche social sites that aren’t related to Internet marketing.

Hi Ben
What do you think about sites such as OnlyWire and Social Monkee – do you think they are a good idea?
Cheers

I use OnlyWire, but not as much as I used to. I like using social news sites and more specifically niche sites more these days. The traffic potential and targeting is much better imo.
Thanks for sharing this list. its very useful for everyone …THANKS
Ben i start using these websites and they works well for me. thanks for authentic links to share with us. i saw many bloggers share fake sites just to get traffic but you links which i check every one got blogs. thanks again Ben
No problem, glad you like the list!
Thanks for the share. Some I know – but there’s a few new ones in there as well.
Good luck with your guest post over @ smartbloggerz (left comment there also).

Great opener, and I couldn’t agree with you more. Having an amazing content isn’t enough to get the right amount of reads that it deserves, we still have to market it using different methods as well. We can’t rely too much on the traffic that comes into our blog, because that is just being complacent. We still have to work harder and harder to achieve better results.
By the way, nice list!

You should add http://www.subbmitt.com to your list. It is a social news site and you don’t need an account to post articles or comment. Also, as long as your article isn’t obvious SPAM, it will make the front page. It is my new favorite social news site.
Thanks for the share Enzo, adding it now.
thank you for posting this list. most of this list are all new to me. this is a big help.
Really nice way to add useful news stories there!
Great list. Just checked out blokube for the first time & it looks like most of the external links are nofollow. Only a handful are dofollow.
Has anyone else investigated this? I’m wondering if you’ve got to subscribe to their “pro” version to get your links dofollowed…
Hey Jill, thanks for commenting. I just checked out Blokube again and the links that go back to your site when you add a post are dofollow.
Maybe we’re looking at different pages. I’ve been looking at the actual news posts themselves – not the internal links on the category pages but the single pages featuring just one article. I’m seeing NOFOLLOW links everywhere. Here are just a couple of examples:
http://www.blokube.com/google/what-is-google-panda-update-%7C-get-back-your-blog-from-panda-update/
http://www.blokube.com/blogging/15-usd-affiliate-lights-sign-up-bonus-from-blog-engage/
You’ll notice that anything that actually links back to the poster’s site is NOFOLLOW.
Like I said, it’s not every post – makes me wonder what’s up, if there’s some sort of “premium poster” membership required.
Ah okay I see now, must be part of the premium membership.
Ben, thanks for sharing your experiences on the SEOROI site through your case study blog post… it was very inspirational, and definitely useful to see some of the material used (such as this blogpost) as evidence that such tactic works!
Thanks David I really appreciate that, I learned a great deal with that link building campaign and putting together the case study for Gab. I’ll be posting a thorough “how to” on the my site once I’ve gone through the motions a few more times
Found you on Basic Blog Tips. Thank you so much for the below list. I knew about some of these sites but not all of them. This will be a big help!

I’m glad you mentioned that people should think about these sites as traffic tools (and places to actually network) and not places for backlinks.
I would also consider adding Fwisp and Zoomit to your list as well.

Yes, I’ve found that building links in search of traffic is a good way to keep concentrated on quality links only. Thanks for the two additional sites, I’ll add them!
Thanks for putting together this list. If you don’t mind I’d like to ask a question. There are two different opinions on whether once you have built your backlinks should you ping the links or let the search engines find them naturally. Would appreciate your opinion, thanks.

No problem, so the question here is really whether or not your backlinks will get indexed without help. For the most part, any quality link will have no problem getting indexed on it’s own – a guest post, blog comment, article on an authoritative site or directory etc. I think you’ll find that most of your links will get indexed just fine on their own.
That being said, there’s nothing wrong with a little extra assurance. Pinging or building links to your backlinks will help indexation. Also, Google crawls pages based approximately on PageRank, so a link from a high PR page will get another page indexed very quickly. Also, links in forums will quickly get links indexed and crawled in no time as well.
Thanks for sharing the list. I know you had a long time making the list and looking for this sites. Anyway, you did good and your post is really very helpful.

Thanks for sharing this list. I have been trying to do it myself but you just saved me a lot of time. Wonderful compilation and should make the best of it. Bookmarked already so that I can use it as reference.
Hey! i’d also posted a similier kind of list sometime before but this one seems better than mine. Thanks for sharing buddy.

Thank you for this great list as it’s super helpful for a newbie to social media like me. I noticed Tumblr isn’t on this list. Can you share your opinion and any info you have on it?
Hey Victoria,
I haven’t used Tumblr for SEO, but the reason it’s not present on this list is because it’s not exactly a bookmarking site. I will be putting together a list of free blogs eventually and this will include Tumblr with other sites like WordPress and Blogger (plus many more).
Thanks for sharing the list….
please add my site to the list : http://bookmarks.freelinkings.com
Also have a PR5 dofollow social bookmarking site . Get high power dofollow links for free.
